Premium Persian Tanur Ovens for Home and Professional Chefs - NSF Certified

Tanur · تنور

In Iran the clay oven is the tanur, used for thin breads like taftoon and lavash baked on the hot wall. A GULATI tandoor is the same clay oven - a high-heat clay pot handcrafted in India inside a heavy-duty stainless steel body, ready for Persian restaurants, bakeries and homes across the USA.

Also known as

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a GULATI tandoor the same as a Persian tanur?
Yes. Tanur and tandoor are regional names for the same clay oven - bread on the wall, meats on skewers inside.
Can I bake taftoon and lavash in a GULATI tandoor?
Yes. Breads are pressed onto the hot clay wall and lifted off when golden. Every NSF GULATI tandoor comes with a gadhi pad (the cushion used to press dough onto the wall) and two bread removal sticks.
Can I bake sangak or barbari in a tanur?
Not traditionally. Sangak is baked on a bed of hot pebbles and barbari on a flat oven floor, so they need a different kind of oven. A tanur is made for wall-baked breads like taftoon and lavash, plus kebabs.
Which tanur is best for a Persian restaurant or bakery?
For restaurants that need health-inspector approval, choose one of our NSF/ANSI 4 gas tandoors (26″ to 36″, 100,000 BTU) - the larger the mouth, the more bread per load, and the 36″ has a 17″ mouth. For a traditional charcoal flavor, choose the 34″ or 36″ charcoal tandoor. Not sure? Call (908) 208-3582 or use the Tandoor Finder and we'll size it with you.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes. Tandoors ship in 1 business day from New Jersey and Los Angeles and arrive in 3-5 business days anywhere in the continental US. NSF, steel pot and charcoal tandoors ship for a flat $300 each; everything else ships free. For Alaska and Hawaii, please call (908) 208-3582.
